Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Warriors Group

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of personalities, and a gripping narrative featuring angels, fiends, and malevolent powers increasing in power within the city.

Note: Spoilers for Episode 3 of the new season follow below.

The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed

Episode 3 ended with a huge suspense moment and revealed the first table of heroes who will separate from the main group to begin their separate journey, apart from the other two tables.

The combat-focused team features the determined fighter (played by Travis), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).

The Reason for Division

With an extensive roster, it was evident from the start that maintaining everyone at a single group would be unworkable.

This explains, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Introduction, connecting the personal journeys before splitting into three separate parties: Soldiers, Planners, and Seekers.

What Defines the Warrior Group

According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who enjoy a traditionally charged battle-oriented gameplay experience where diplomatic options are few and far between.

Initially, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander might seem unsuited, but the events of the third episode make it clear why these five characters are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.

Why They Must Go

To begin with, the party understands precisely where to proceed after a brutal first encounter with the antagonists.

A former ally of Thjazi—whose death initiated the campaign’s events—exploited the foes for his personal gain, entering the secret base, attacking the character, and stealing all the enchanted items to sell off.

The antagonist then cleared his debts and ran away to a fortified location in the northern region, north of Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.

Character Drivers

Secondly, each adventurer has a specific drive to depart the metropolitan area:

  • Thimble, as the companion and closest confidant, wants retribution.
  • The knowledgeable figure knows the northern area and warns that it is a hostile location.
  • The warrior and The healer, having resisted his family’s wishes to eliminate the target and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
  • Yet, their reputation as important members in House Halovar could help the group access areas they usually can’t.
  • Additionally, The grateful character vowed a life debt to Wicander for his salvation and will now follow him everywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Finally, all of them are sought by the powers that control the setting for a range of causes, making staying in the city no longer safe:

  • The rogue and The character are notorious outlaws.
  • The warrior and The healer defied the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
  • Teor is wanted dead by the family.

This means them no alternative but to travel to Timmony in search of the traitor.

Upcoming Developments

Based on the recent installment’s follow-up content, we find out that the Soldiers table will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the cast members to form the Explorers and Schemers tables.

Viewers can expect finding out which players will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, released on the upcoming Thursday.
